Today I was chatting with my neighbor, Rachel who is a high school English teacher. Our conversation runs the gambit, and usually includes what she is reading. Today she mentioned she just finished "Frankenstein" by Mary Shelley. It's the first book her students will be reading this year. She said she had never read it and found it very interestingly relevant and connected to issues we have in our society today. Has anyone read "Frankenstein?" Just wonderin' what you think. I might give it a shot. #thscratch# I read that last year for school. Boy was I surprised by the difference from the book to the way frankenstein is precieved as a green monster. It was a decent book. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I couldve just read through it instead of having to take notes (put like 2 post its per page) for my 10th grade english class.

Right now I'm reading Mistress of the Art of Death by Ariana Franklin. It's kinda CSI set in the 12th century. That sounds interesting. I shall add that to my list of books to read!

That sounds like a good read -- I enjoy books set in that time period. I'm hoping my library has a copy, though, because I've gone a bit nuts here lately buying books (the Twilight Saga will be the death of my bank account). I can understand that totally. The bookstore is THE MOST dangerous place you can possibly set me loose, at least as far as my bank account is concerned! I hope your library carries the book. It's pretty new, I think, so you may need to wait a couple of weeks. I know me too! I can never get bored at the book store! It is an amazing place! I absolutely love it! But you are right...it takes away lots of money.

I taught FRANKENSTEIN to high school seniors. Most of them really liked it; we got into the idea of the ugly outside hiding the more beautiful inside. After we finished it, we watched the movie and then (since I'm such a hugh Johnny Depp fan) I showed them Edward Scissorhands. That usually made a big impact on them. Yesterday I finished SAIL by James Patterson; I am now reading NOTHING TO LOSE by Lee Child. Nana My teacher did that too! We had to write an essay about the 'other' and we used Edward Scissorhands in it too.

I am currently reading The Shack, and wow, I can't put it down either and it has made me really think, and try to adjust some things in my life. Before this I just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, by the same author of the Kite Runner, I have had it sitting here for about a year, was planning to read it after I read the Kite Runner and just didn't pick it up. It is soooo sad, but it is one of those books that when you get to the end you are so glad you read it. It sure makes you appreciate what we have too............Sher Yes, that definitely makes you appreciate everything we have so muxh more! I couldnt put that book down. (A thousand splendid suns). I loved both Kite runner and A thousand splendid suns. He is such a great author!

Currently I am reading Breaking Dawn (which I barely have time for due to volleyball and all my homework that keeps me up til 1-2am)...and I am also reading To Kill A Mockingbird for my class right now. I have a bunch of books calling my name...just waiting to be read in my room...I just need to find the time to read them. I hope I get to them soon. I have over a dozen just waiting... I love Nicholas Sparks, Jodi Picoult, Mitch Albom, Stephanie Meyer....

I'm reading War and Peace right now.
I feel like I've been saying that for awhile. Oh right, I have.
Quick, someone stop me.

Just finished the Alchemist, and the Twilight series (since it was set in the state which I live in). I thought the Twilight series was quite good even though there were a lot of grammar errors in it. Next I am going to find the following books to read: Idoleyes by Mandisa Save me from myself; by Brian Welch of Korn I am interested in the second one because it is Brians testimony of how he went from drugs, and the craziness of a rock star to a on fire Christian.

I'm reading War and Peace right now. I feel like I've been saying that for awhile. Oh right, I have. Quick, someone stop me. I tried cheating by watching the film version starring Audrey Hepburn, Henry Fonda and Mel Ferrer but that just made me want to read the extremely long novel even more. I swear, I'll finish it before I die! Currently, we're studying two plays in my Twentieth Century Literature class: A Streetcar Named Desire and A Taste of Honey. Tennessee Williams' is one of my favourite writers.

I just finished the Memory Keepers Daughter by Kim Edwards. It was ok. I read Kite Runner before that and I thought it was an amazing book but it was really, really sad. Think I'm gonna take a break for a bit.

I am reading "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurs Court" by Mark Twain. Actually I am reading it out loud to my children for history. It is very interesting and quite humorous at places. But it's a slow read for us....one chapter takes about 30 minutes to read out loud.
I am also currently reading "Israel, My Beloved" by Kay Arthur. It's a love story about Israel. Only in the book Israel is a woman named Sarah.

I'm reading "A Wolf at The Table - A memoir of my father" by Augusten Burroughs. Beautifully written, but darkly humorous. I guess most of his stuff is.

She is a talented writer! I'd love to be half as good!

I just finished a book by Joanne Harris (who wrote Chocolat) called Gentlemen and Players. It was well-written suspense that kept me guessing. Some parts of the story got to be a bit dark for my taste (think elements of The Talented Mr. Ripley) but if you don't mind dark and like stories that play with your mind, I'd say check it out.
I'm about to start IdolEyes by Mandisa!

Actually, I really liked the "Memory Keeper's Daughter" too, I followed it with the "Kite Runner" and it was so heavy that in comparison it paled. However with time between both of them I really enjoyed both books just different. I hope that makes sense.

I'm reading "Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict." Thanks for lending it to me, Lisa! I finished Kite Runner (FINALLY) and I needed something light and fluffy!
I can't wait to hear what you have to say about IdolEyes! It's no secret how much I love that book!

I didn't know she went to the high school just a few blocks from where I grew up!!

I just read Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. It was ok but I couldn't really warm up to the two main characters.
I'm just starting The Choice by Nicholas Sparks. Hopefully I will like it better.
Maybe I'm just spoiled after reading the Kite Runner.

I didn't know she went to the high school just a few blocks from where I grew up!! I'm enjoying it so far! It's cute! Just what I needed after a heavier read! Oh, they definitely will be life-changers. You know what that book did for me! I didn't know where her high school was, but I knew that was her hometown. That's why I didn't get to meet her after the AI concert. She was backstage with her family!
