I remember youtubing Jason's original songs ages ago and coming across "So Fast", not expecting to hear what I did. I got goosebumps on my arms, chills down my back & the hair's on my neck literally stood up. It was just so haunting. Then, after finding out the personal story behind the song and listening to it again, I totally teared up - I'm not brought to tears easily. Well now, I can't bloody listen to it without my mind wandering and my eyes filling up. And yet, while the song is full of sad emotion, by the end of it, I almost feel healed. He does have such a musical gift. His singing and lyrics are straight from the heart. I love that. The more I listen to So Fast...it continues to be haunting, yet I too, feel a sense of healing. This is the lesson learned, the inspiration that I think Jason brings to all of his writing along with the emotion expressed from the heart. For me, these four lines: Why were we, why were we so unkind? Oh, and now there's no words to say that will ever change... and... Thinkin' that things could've been different If he'd have held his tongue The lesson and the inspiration ..."be kind, always and remember to watch the words you speak..." Not saying that this would have changed the situation or prevented it from happening...just the learning, trying to be better, the personal healing.

This is such a beautiful, haunting and mature song from someone so young. It shows Jason's special gift for translating what is in his heart into music.

My aunt died today. I listened to this song, put it on repeat, and I cried on the subway ride to school. She didn't kill herself, but.. she just went so fast. I'm still pretty numb. I pray for her soul. Can you say a little prayer for her too?
------
Did you notice that he talks about how the SONG is dying, and how his friend just went so fast? People always use euphemisms to mask hurt.

I am so glad to see Jason hasn't retired this song. I know a lot of emotion went behind that song and for awhile there was question of if he'd be willing to sing it again. I'm glad he has choosen too because though it is haunting and sad, it also reminds us to be careful with our words. This is one of my all time original favorites.

I'm with you both on this one...interesting, faster, new rendition...however, prefer Jason's original, more haunting...heart stopping.

you know at first I liked the original better too, but the more I listen to the new one I really, really love the new one. I like the non-acoustic sound. It just took me a minute to get used to it because I was so used to the original. I still like the original, but I think the new version gets my vote.

bethann, these are the lyrics posted on thedreadheads.com!
So Fast The flowers are wrinkled and she, She still don't understand… The measures a man can go, Oh, bless her soul. *
The tears are no longer falling But what happens when the rivers dries? It leaves you dying inside But it’s not her fault, but she can’t go on Thinking there’s something she could have done, That she could have done
And the song is slowly dying, but you went so fast Why were we, why were we so unkind? And now there’s no words to say that will ever change The way you took your life... with the slip of a finger.
And he looks in the mirror and he, he’s filled with hate The enemy so many times escaped But it’s not his fault but he No he can’t go on thinking Things could have been different if he'd have held his tongue
And the song is slowly dying but you went so fast Why were we, why were we so unkind? And now there’s no words to say that will ever change the way you went The way you left this world
And the song is slowly dying but you went so fast, Why were we so unkind? And now there’s no words to say that will ever change The way you took your life… with the slip of a finger.

The original version was so hauntingly beautiful. I could picture Jason sitting in a dark room all by himself and searching his soul. The new version is too upbeat, IMO. It's a song about someone who took his life at such a young age. The rocked out version just doesn't seem to fit the lyrics. Now, if the lyrics were about something different, I would love the rocked out version because it's nice to see Jason expanding his horizons ... just not on this song. #cryingsmilie#

I understand what people mean about it not being the right song to rock out, but I don't know why but for some reason when I saw him do this in Garland it just grabbed me and ripped me apart. I always did find the song did that to me, as like many others I have lost someone very close to me through suicide and it is very hard, we didn't have a note and have spent years asking ourselves why, and that question never goes away. So this song touched me from the beginning and it will always be special to me, both versions, but the rocked out one really grabs me for some reason, maybe it was just seeing him sing it.
