So Fast makes me think of my cousin, Lori, who took her own life at the age of 20. She was 2 years younger than me, and i was devastated, and felt so guilty for not knowing her plans, or being able to help her.
I criedwhen i first heard this song, but i really love it. Jason expresses my feelings and memories so well in the words , and the beautiful, haunting melody.
It doesn't hurt to listen to it. Its actually kind of cathartic. It sounds like many of you have also been moved by this song.
Idon't know the specific story behind it, but I can tell it was a very intense, sad an personal event in jason's life. It is wonderful that he has the gift of music to work through his emotions.

This is my favorite Jason song as well. I lost my dad in 2003 with the slip of a finger and when I first heard this song it about tore my heart out. I cried and cried. From there the more I listened the more at peace I felt. He touched so clearly on survivors guilt and pain. I give Jason and his words complete credit for helping heal parts of me I never thought would be repaired. It is an incredible song from an incredible man.
I am sorry to all of you with similar losses. I know how very devastating it is.
I'm glad that others love this song as much as I do. It is his best, in my opinion, by far. His depth is beyond measure.
L.

I really hope he records this, even though it makes me cry every time I hear it. Jason is so amazing, I can't believe he's only 21 years old. Thank God for his family dragging him to Idol auditions, so we can all enjoy his wonderful voice.

HaHa funny "so fast" memory for me, I was telling Jason HOW MUCH I truely loved this song and I happened to get cold at the same time and noticed I'd gotten goosebumps. So I point to my arm with goosebumps and hair standing up and say to him "SEE, that's how much this song affects me!" you should of seen his eyes pop out of his head! I will never forget it because it was hysterical!

So Fast is my favorite Jason pre-idol song. It is hauntingly beautiful.
Jason's ability to infuse emotion is what always tugs my heart strings whether for longing, or sadness, loss, love etc. Just name the emotion and Jason can oh so easily make you feel it.
It is such a gift he has...

#hugz# for everyone who has experienced loss in this way. In that sense I'm sorry the song ever had to be at all. But it's good that Jason was able to translate his own feelings into a song, which has then reached out and helped others too.
This wasn't an instant grab song for me. I guess considering the instant grab effect of Daydream or Only One, I'm probably more in the market for wanting to hear cheerful, uplifting music which associates with Jason's light, easy-going & cheerful spirit that I've come to see in him. So I dismissed this song on first listen as being too dreary for me ~ I didn't know what had inspired the song then and there are parts where I can't make out what he's singing/the lyrics, especially near the beginning.
I later read a post on IDF about what had inspired the song and decided to revisit it, understanding what inspired it, gave me a new appreciation of how good the song actually is in it's lyrical expression; and how well the musical style fits the experience. The ambling rhythm, whilstling and echo-quality to the recording all combine to create a hollow feel, which I now understand and appreciate as haunting rather than dreary. ~ So, whilst it may not have been an instant grab for me, I do now appreciate how good this song is and how well Jason captured the essense of his thoughts and feelings at the time #hugz#

Suicide is, I think, one of the hardest things in life to overcome. My son's father committed suicide when he was just 7 and it is something you can't even imagine having to deal with. I remember crying for months, in the car, in the store, at work. The guilt one carries is undescribable, and I was also blamed by others for his death. (i only wanted a divorce, not for him to die) I wasn't able to attend his funeral with my son and that saddened me, although I really didn't even want to face anyone. I know I wasn't responsible, but in a suicide someone is always looking for someone to blame. The first time i heard Jason's song, i can't even put into words the emotions that poured out of me, and this suicide has been 23 years ago. He was just 33 years of age. Wow, I guess after all these years there is still a need to let it out...............i really didn't mean to go into all of this. But, Jason absolutely captured the same emotions I have felt dealing with a suicide. Very real to say the least. I feel a very strong connection to this song.

To have written this song, at his age, is intense....to hear him sing it, heartbreaking. Its an amazing song, sung by an amazing young man.

I listen via my computer all day at work, but have to keep the volume down fairly low, so I missed out on some of the quiet lyrics until I actually read them on DDB as I listened to the song. Then, pow, it hit me how truly sad the song is, and I was surprised that Jason would write such a sad song. Then I read the posts here and pow, found out it is based on a real life experience. I should have known. Jason is a powerful song writer and performer and the song touches my soul. I love it, it's beautiful, but it is so sad it hurts my heart.

i love this song-so dark, so sad, and full of emotion-Jason's emotion since he wrote it. And knowing its true is hard to hear-when i first heard the song i didnt like it just b/c it made me sad to listen to it. But its so beautiful that i started listening to it more and now i love to hear it.
