My act of kindness came to my door. I was cleaning my house when I heard a faint knock at my door. I opened the door and there stood a homeless man. He asked me if I had any spare change and I told him I did not, he proceeded to ask me if I had a bannana or an apple because he was hungry. I asked him to wait outside my door, I went into my kitchen. I gathered four slices of bread, two slices of cheese, warmed two corn dogs, two oranges, a sweet cake of some sort, and a can of soup with a spoon. I went back to my door and he was still there. I gave him his food and he thanked me by saying, "May God bless you. I stated to him, "God bless you too". He walked away. My other acts of kindness is, when I am in line at a store I will help with small amounts of change when needed. My last act of kindness is always give spiritual advice to those who need lifting in times of trouble. There is always something bigger behind everything we do, "The Lord above". Acts of kindness should be done daily. The Lord above expects us to help others in the world whether big or small in any situation. Happy Birthday Jason!!!!

Well, I'm with most here who don't usually talk about what we do for others, but since you asked...
My husband and I have always welcomed our childrens friends into our home for meals, games or just to hang out in a safe place. This past year was a bit different though as some of our 18y/o sons friends actually became homeless for various reasons. Without asking, my good-hearted middle son insisted that these guys come and live with us until they could find more permament places to live. Several stayed for days or weeks, but another lived with us for about 3 1/2 months. Both parents of this boy were abusive alcoholics and he lived in fear, never knowing what to expect from them. It became especially hard last spring/summer when they were going through a divorce. That's when he came to live with us, so he could finish high school and find a job.
It broke my heart to hear the stories from these boys and I always wanted to hug them and tell them everything would be ok. Instead I cooked meals, laundered clothes, made up beds, and watched them relax and smile. It felt good to offer them a loving home and family life even though it was for a short time.
Since it's not everyday that you get the opportunity to open your home to others like that, in honor of Jason's giving heart, I think I'll drop off a couple bags of clothing at the Salvation Army.

I volunteered at preschool this week. First time. 12 preschoolers = 24 boots 24 mittens/gloves 12 hats (yes, we still have snow) 12 zippers (more if you count bathroom zippers ) about 12 precious stones collected (rocks) All went well until alphabet time. About 5 letters to discuss. One is the letter J. Teacher: What starts with the letter J? My Son: Jason!!!Me: * turns 24 shades of red* So, there ya go. Street teaming at the preschool FTW. Start 'em young! True story. BTW, we have no other Jasons in our family or set of friends.

I'm with lots of other's I am always doing little things and I don't usually talk about it, but I consider myself lucky to have lived the life I have and my heart goes out to others who are not able to do for themselves, I always give to the food drives, but I also keep my eyes and ears open and if someone happens to mention that they wished they could have certain something and are not able to afford it because they have so many priorities and kids to feed or bills to pay and cannot afford the luxury of what may be considered unnecessities I try to get it for them and hope that this brings a smile to their face and their heart, knowing someone cares and wants to see them have a little something special to pick them up. I have done this alot lately with some of my new friends, it warms my heart to be able to give back for all the kind things people have done here and generously donated their time for all if us.

Aaannnd . . . . this past christmas I had a "lo carbon footprint" living evergreen, which I purchased just before going to Garland I enjoyed it for the holiday and then called my city to donate it "in appreciation of the joy jason castro's music brings." And I got the call today-- on jason's birthday-- to say they had found a place where it was needed and its been planted in a pretty park very near me! Coincidence? or jasony good karma? Aaaannnd . . .when I returned to my studio from delivering my cupcakes to the shelter (see previous post), I had sold another painting! Hm, I always wonder if its my work that brings folks in, or the sound of jason's voice which is always playing in my studio, hm . . .lovin' the karma . . . .

as Randy said, just pay it forward. if i have it but you need it then it's yours. my absolute favorite thing to do is give people a reason to smile, it can sometimes be a challenge but if you look close enough and listen something will come to you. then you just say that thing or do that thing.

Like several of you, I'm not quite comfortable sharing specific acts of kindness...but, speaking in a very general way... Local hospitals often accept donations of books--their libraries don't usually have enough money to be well-stocked with the latest novels, and if you aren't going to read them again, that's a nice place to send them. Or if you live in an apartment building or complex, you can set up a "book swap" in a generally available area, so that others can enjoy the books you are finished with--I can run through a lot of books, and I can pass on the few cents I can get for selling them. Free Rice: www.freerice.com/index.php It's a vocabulary game, and for every answer you get right, 10 grains of rice are donated to the UN World Food Program. 15 minutes a day can put a lot of rice in hungry tummies. I have 15 minutes a day... I think it is really important to smile and say something nice to the usually-ignored service people around you--bus drivers, subway conductors, toll booth collectors, bank tellers...and their faces just light up when someone looks right at them and says hello with a smile...

I bought a lady who was homeless a sandwich for lunch today. I usually do stuff like that. I used to be in that situation when I was a kid. It bothered me to see people walking past her and she was in tears asking someone to buy her lunch. So I went into Subway and used the few dollars I had to buy her something to eat. I try to be kind to others. I don't like to brag about being kind though. I think God wants everyone to love and take care of one another.

Today I picked my Mom up from the airport in Philadelphia. She said she wanted a cheesesteak. So we drove to Pat Steaks.. While standing in line I overheard the couple behind me talking.
They were saying how nervous they were to order a cheesesteak and this was their first one. So I told them if they ordered wrong, they would have to go to the end of the line, and that I should just order it for them.
So I took the order and paid for it.
They were surprised and said I didn't have to do that, and asked me why I did it.. I was happy to tell them that today is Jason Castro ( from American Idol fame) b-day and he is getting random acts of kindness for his celebration. They said wow I love Philadelphia.. and then they said.. nah.. I love Jason Castro...
Happy Birthday Jason..

A friend of mine has just started a program called ConnectUs. It is a non-profit dedicated to providing services for multiply-impared young adults while also providing an opportunity for individuals to serve internships, or just volunteer. They held their first event last weekend called Puppet Palooza (You Too Can Glue!). They had a great turnout and made over 400 puppets which will make their way to Honduras and Haiti (maybe even to GLOW!) for the kids there. I just moved away from Michigan but was able to Connect my friend with a wonderful photographer who was there to photograph the event - and I'll also be getting a puppet here in Minnesota to report back to Michigan and promote the group. So introducing my ConnectUs friend to my Photographer friend was my chance to "pay it forward" as it were. (for a better explanation of what they are all about you can go to their website at www.connectus-livonia.org. I'm not around the boards much any more, as my life has changed drastically in the last six months and I don't have the time to spend that I used to - but I am still here in spirit, supporting Jason and all the team as well. There is always time, no matter what is happening in life, to give something to others. Peace, and hope...

I work at a restaurant just down the block from a subsidized apt. building for disabled people. We send the leftover food to them every day.
I have gotten to know a few of them pretty well.
So, today after work, I took George, a man with no legs, out for a wheelchair walk, in the beautiful spring sunshine. He so rarely gets out. Then I made him some ice tea, and we chatted for awhile about his grandkids, and my kids, and what they're all up to. After that, I dropped in on Pam, a blind woman, and read the paper to her. She's really smart, and I love having political discussions with her. She is always so cheerful, a real inspiration to me.
The more I know these people ,I feel like I'm the lucky one, to have had the chance to make friends with them.

What a great idea for a thread! I hope Jason gets a chance to read some of these. I try to do them all the time. I truly love helping people! The most recent one I think was a couple of days ago. I went for a prayer walk and I walked past several houses that still had their newspapers in the driveway. I put them all up on the porches. It's nothing HUGE, but it's the little things sometimes!

Saturday it was freezing here , I was going grocery shopping when I saw an old woman lugging 2 heavy bags of trash towards the dump. I turned around, asked her if I could take the trash to the dump for her.
Poor woman looked at me and said God Bless You. So I loaded her trash in the trunk and helped her into my front seat. Took it to the dump and asked her if she had a coat. She said no. I had one I was going to give to good will, drove to my house, got it gave it to her and took her home.
Again she said God Bless You and hugged the coat like it was gold.
Like the rest of you I try to notice things like this and do what I can. I am uncomfortable talking about it.
Thanks for breaking the ice with all of your heart warming acts of kindness.

I love it that you are doing this. Well, I stopped and moved several trash cans that had blown out into the street, I usually would have gone by. I brought some extra supplies to one of my home health patients that they would not have been able to afford. I spent several extra hours working on a project for somone, outside of regular work time. Although, I am like the others and don't usually talk about what I do. I think this is a good opportunity to think about acts of kindness we do on a regular basis and also to become more aware of opportunities that present themselves.

Today there were a whole bunch of prospective students taking a tour of my college campus. A girl and her mom walked up to me when I was exiting the art building and asked if I new where the black box was. I didn't know what they were talking about and I asked them to explain. They told me that someone had said to them that the black box for the theater was in the arts building. Being a Theater Major I told them that I had no idea where the black box was or if we even had one. The girl told me she was a junior in high school and wanted to come to my college to study theater. She then asked me how I liked going to this school. I gave them an honest answer and then I asked if they would like me to walk them to the theater. They accepted and I proceeded to walk them to give them a walking tour of the campus. I also introduced them to the head of the theater department and some of the theater professors.
I'm not a tour guide for my school nor am I a representative of the theater department. I just wanted to help a mom and daughter who were interested in my school. I didn't even remember the random act of kindness event for jason's b-day.

My grandchildren spent the day with me last Saturday, and I gave each of them art supplies and paper to draw pictures to take to a local nursing home. I explained that this was a project we would be doing in honor of Jason's birthday! (Of course they love Jason!) When I picked them up from school today, Allie and Chase were so excited that today was the day to visit the nursing home! In fact, Chase had asked his pre-school teacher if the other kids in his class could also draw pictures for us to take! Of course his teacher said that was a great idea!
When we arrived at the nursing home, we gathered up all 37 drawings and went inside to begin delivering them. We went to each room and spent several minutes meeting each resident before the kids gave them their "signed" works of art! It's a good thing my grandkids love getting hugs...because almost everyone there wanted to thank them and give them a hug!!
The joy we saw in their faces was matched only by the joy I saw in my grandchildren's eyes! This is definitely something we will do again... and often!
Happy Birthday Jason! You are truly an inspiration to us all!

I don't think I did anything nice today. . .
. . . that makes me feel horrible. How did I go a whole day and not do anything? Haha.
Well, I didn't punch anyone. Maybe that counts.
No, no, no, I'll pretend tomorrow is the day to do something nice. Second chances FTW!
