Well someone suggested that maybe AI asked him to audition, so they would get Jason's fans to view the show, cause maybe they heard that alot of his fans were not gonna watch this year. i don't know if that's the case but either way i think its kinda cool and strange at the same time. #music-smiley-008# Oh and Van, that's why i posted it under Chatter, cause we can talk about anything here right? Just saying yeah, that explanation makes real sense... that could be one of the reasons. or maybe mcas just wants to audition LOL either way, i hope mcas does make it! it would be interesting i think! Well maybe this could be an explanation also. Michael was a year younger last year and at his stage of life a year is a huge difference in our wants, needs, etc. So maybe he's just growing as a person and has made a choice? could be..... Heck even at my age my needs change, I mean I even bought a different toothpaste this year!!!! I'm wild though....grin

Oh, man. I wouldn't think Idol would have anything to do with this. That's just...silly talk. Though I'm sure if he went into the audition openly saying he was Jason's brother and was able to sing well, he got through.
People change their minds all the time... I am not surprised at all that a younger brother would want what an older brother has. And I disagree that it would hurt Jason's career. If anything it would keep the name Castro in people's minds longer if Michael were to do well on the show, helping them BOTH with their careers in music. It worked well for Benji and Lacey on So You Think You Can Dance... In essence, I would call this a smart marketing move, though I don't believe that was the intention, of course. :-)

In fact it was just last month...due to my needs changing and bein' a year older! Ha, we wild and wacky ones understand...yeah? So if AI encouraged Michael to try out, that might be one of the smartest moves they have ever made. Either way, Michael looks happy and yes, I wasn't yet now I will be watching! Go Michael, hope you make it!!! It takes courage to put yourself out there! #clap#

That's great that MCas will try out this year! I can't wait to hear him sing too. Now I have something to look forward to for next season, because I agree with everyone who says that Season 7 was the best and that it will be hard to top it!

Ah, whatevs. Just an opinion! If my brother was just on a show and was in the process of getting his career off the ground, I personally wouldn't audition right away. I would wait until he's at least got somethin going on before I jump the gun. It's only fair, I think. But as I said - good luck to Michael! I'm sure he'll make it far.

That would be cool except it's Network TV....who knows if the show will be kept on for another year? Like anything else in this life you must strike while the irons hot.... pardon the pun

The judges have contracts... that contract expires in 2010, apparently. But yeah, 'strike while the iron's hot' seems to be all the rage these days!

Those contracts are called "play or pay" and have been around Hollywood for decades. They are also quite common to be bought out if the project will cost more in losses than it would to produce.

I'm in agreement having Michael on this year will be a benefit to Jason. Watching this show 7 years I've seen time and time again the pattern of the season. Typical AI fans, hot hot hot during the season, pledge enterial love (mostly teens, sorry but true), season ends 50% decline, tour ends and another 50% and when the new season begins another 50% decline. Leaving about 12% of the original fan base. Seeing Jason or his brother will only serve as a reminder. If we are lucky pushing us back up to 15, 20% . When Jason's cd comes out the numbers will climb again.
p.s. these numbers are rounded and not actual, just a broad guessimate. lol

^True, I never thought that Michael's AI run could benefit Jason's CD sales! I don't want to use Michael either though

I'm sure the benefits will be a two way street. I've already heard people say they are ready to vote. *lol* I won't go there as I haven't heard him sing yet or anyone else. Normally I don't vote unless I love love love them. Well maybe one or two votes but not the two phones like wild pig voting. Only two in AI history I did that for.

;D I am personally glad he tried out & I hope he made it ~ we will see. I can't say if I will vote or not because I haven't heard him, but he does seem a little less camera shy and Jason even said that he sings better, of course Jason being the humble guy he is would say that. I think they both love music & singing & Michael just wanted to give it a whirl! Best of luck to him, I will be watching! #th28-1#

All right Michael...that's pretty cool. Having another Castro on Idol would be great. What kind of worries me, though, is if Michael does make it passed auditions, passed Hollywood Week, and into the top 24, that people won't look at him and hear him, they'll look at him and listen to him and forever compare him to Jason. That's kind of unavoidable, especially since Jason made it so far in the competition. You gotta admit, that's something to watch out for.
I wish him the best of luck, though! I will definitely tune in and cheer him on. ;D

He has probably experienced all the love we give Jason and he wants a bit. Don't blame him, we do pour out the love.

It's not uncommon for one sibling to follow in the successful path of another... esp. in the entertainment industry.
According to Jason, Michael sings better than he does. Michael's young and good looking, and has a brother who just had the year of his life through AI. (Gosh, just think how far Jason has come!) I can see how all of this would be very exciting and enticing for any kid who loves music.
Anyway, Michael wants to do it and his family supports it, so it 's all good. He should go for it. And I really don't think it'll hurt Jason at all, remember all publicity is good publicity in the entertainment industry.
I didn't want to watch AI again and I have no intention of ever falling so hard for a contestant like I have for Jason... #whew# that whole experience was so emotionally draining! But now, I WILL be watching and very likely voting for another Castro boy, haha. Anyway, I wish Michael a lot of success and look forward to seeing/hearing him!
Maybe in the future we'll even see the Castro boys touring together! #clap# #thsmiley_bouncetrampoline# #clap#
