It's not uncommon for one sibling to follow in the successful path of another... esp. in the entertainment industry. According to Jason, Michael sings better than he does. Michael's young and good looking, and has a brother who just had the year of his life through AI. (Gosh, just think how far Jason has come!) I can see how all of this would be very exciting and enticing for any kid who loves music. Anyway, Michael wants to do it and his family supports it, so it 's all good. He should go for it. And I really don't think it'll hurt Jason at all, remember all publicity is good publicity in the entertainment industry. I didn't want to watch AI again and I have no intention of ever falling so hard for a contestant like I have for Jason... #whew# that whole experience was so emotionally draining! But now, I WILL be watching and very likely voting for another Castro boy, haha. Anyway, I wish Michael a lot of success and look forward to seeing/hearing him! Maybe in the future we'll even see the Castro boys touring together! #clap# #thsmiley_bouncetrampoline# #clap# That's true...there are plenty of sibling entertainers out there who have separate, successful careers. And, just to clarify, I don't think that Michael being on Idol should negetively effect Jason's career in any way. I don't know if Michael's voice is better than Jason's, (I kinda doubt I'd like it more because I love Jason's so very much. That would be kind of a tall order for Michael to fill.) because, to be fair, I've never heard Michael sing. But, I just worry that if he makes it onto the show that he won't be judged fairly one way or another because of who his brother is. It's Brandon Lee syndrome. Brandon was a young, good looking, and talented man. But, when he went on auditons, a lot of casting directors would look at him and think "Wow, Bruce Lee's son." and Brandon REALLY hated that. I would just hope that Michael would be praised for his own talents and helpfully criticized for his shortcomings, not Jason's. I will definitely be tuning in next season. I had planned to anyhow, but now that another Castro boy will be on there, I definitely have another reason to tune in. I don't necessarily expect to like him as much as I did Jason, (you're right...that was so emotionally exhausting, not that I regret a minute of it.) I also can't promise he'll be my season 8 favorite. But, he will have my support. A Castro brother tour would be awesome! I guess we'll have to stay tuned.

I just get the impression that Michael is doing this for fun and doesn't actually want a career in music as seriously as Jason does.

That's cool...but if he goes into it for fun, and goes far with the show, when he comes out on the other end, the days of being "in it for fun" will kinda be over because people will be expecting things from him. I'm not trying to be a kill joy here, I just kinda hope he knows all this...though I'm sure he's probably considered this.

If Michael gets far enough for us to be voting I'm sure he'll go far because he'll have all the dreadheads behind him too!! I'm sooooo excited!! I have a friend whose roommate made it to Hollywood week so I've been trying to get ahold of him to see if I can find anything out about Michael...probably pretty tight lipped tho since it is AI! But I'm trying!!

I was a big Bruce Lee fan as a kid and when I first saw Brandon in "The Crow" I did expect him to be more like his dad. Eventually, he did become respected for his own great talent though. Very sad that he died so young. Initially comparisons between the Michael and Jason will be unavoidable. I really hope Michael gets fair praise/criticism from the judges atleast, because unfortunately, like it or not, they (and the producers) have a lot of influence in how the public reacts. I also hope, for Michaels sake, that his own unique individuality and talent shines through so we all come to love him for that instead of who his brother is.

[/quote] Exactly, I've never heard Michael Castro sing and I'm not going to say that I'm automatically going to like him, should he get to the point of voting, because he's Jason's brother. Just like Jason did, Michael will have to prove himself to me as someone worthy of my attention. And, I hope it'll be like that with the judges too. I don't want Michael to be praised or criticized simply because of who he's related to. I want him to be successful on A.I. based on his own unique abilities, just like Jason was. I don't want him to be in Jason's shadow. So, I'm happy that he's decided to do this and I wish him well...I just want people to look at him and see "Michael Castro" not "Jason Castro's kid brother."

Well, anything's possible, really. Jason says that Michael's a better singer...::shrugs:: I can't even wrap my mind around that, to be honest. I love Jason so much that I can't imagine liking any contestent as much or more than him...even if they are in his family. Given that he's from the same gene pool and had the same upbringing, I'm sure he's probably got similar values...even if his personality is different. I'm sure he's of great character and I have no doubt that he'll measure up to that. But, talent wise, with due respect to him...Michael's got some big shoes to fill.

I just get the impression that Michael is doing this for fun and doesn't actually want a career in music as seriously as Jason does. you think michael would put himself through this for laughs? im sure he has better character then that. i dont think he wouldnt be doing this for that reason since he saw first hand what jason went though as far as schedule and practice. but im interested in why you think this since we dont know anything about his motivations yet.

I don't really want to speak for the poster above, but maybe the fact that Michael said at Jason's exit interview that he would never sing in public, also there is a question that the creepers asked about what does he like to sing and he said he did not like to sing (May 10th), also in the recent video for the AI tryouts, Michael stated that Jason had advised him not to do it just to goof around (look at michaels interview again). Of course, no one knows why he is doing it yet, or if he will want to continue once he learns how much is demanded. I know he has seen what Jason went through, but still it is entirely a different thing to go through it yourself and be the one up there being judged or criticized and torn apart. I still wish him the best. Whatever, happens in the long run. It will for sure make him grow as a person and find out a little more about who he is and what he wants in life. I really think in the end that is really what it is about.

IMO Jason is a perfectionist and way to humble. He focuses on what he thinks he lacks which is power and range. I think he has more than enough of both. What Jason seems to fail to understand is that vocal tone and being instantly recognizable to the listener is huge and Jason has that. No one sounds like Jason. The ability to make your listeners feel to move them is also huge. IMO no one infuses emotion and feeling into songs like Jason does. Also Jason phrasing is so creative and poignant and moving. Jason artistry is bar none.
That said, if Michael has something special about his singing that is unique and undeniable well I will support him. If he is just another big voice vocal gymnast's I won't.

I wish Michael all the best of luck. I think we should all just wait and see and give the guy his chance just like anyone else. I'm personally looking forward to having another Castro on my TV every week, because I think they're cool!

I think the Castro's are a musical family, with Papa Castro and uncles playing guitar and singing, there's alot of influence there. I think the whole familty enjoys singing and playing guitar. Let's face it - it's fun and when people love what you do - it's great to make a living that way. Who knows what the motivation is for Michael. I'm sure he knows what he is getting into with AI. I'm sure he's gotten very good advice from Jason. I wasn't sure if I was watching Idol again. I do love watching a singing contest but the way they treated Jason, so unfairly, I wasn't keen on watching it again. One thing for sure there won't ever be a contestant like Jason. He is the one and only AMERICAN IDOL and NO ONE can ever compare! I would be very interested to watch if Michael is on. And if he is good he will get my vote. But let's be fair to him - let him make it on his own merit! I wish him all the best and success!

Humm, every post I have read says if Michael is good they will vote for him, if not they won't vote.
I see everyone giving Michael the bennift of the doubt.

I'm not saying anything about his character. And when did I say 'for laughs'? Don't put words in my mouth, thanks Michael has never really expressed an interest in singing apart from doing it for fun with Jason and such. Or maybe I don't know enough about Michael? Has he taken part in any talent shows/competitions as Jason has? Or HAS he expressed an interest in a long term music career? I personally haven't seen evidence of either. I think he's seen the kind of experience Jason has had, and wants a chunk of it. That's all I'm sayin. I know you're a big Michael fan, so take what I say with a grain of salt. It's just an opinion.
