i agree! raw and acoustic! did anyone else notice that at TAMU he changed the lyrics back to "first time feelings but we know just where to start" like he had in the first youtube video, instead of "i've been so lost and i don't know where to start" i definitely prefer it this way it also seems like there were a lot less high notes than previously. he sings the whole song in a lower voice. AND I LOVE IT!

I noticed at the concert that Jason used a capo on this song so it would be in a much lower key! I love to hear his lower register on this song!!!!

From reading other threads, I believe I may be in the minority on this one....but I adore it done exactly as it was on the original date night video. I feel that the sweet, pure falsetto he used really adds to the mood of longing and vulnerability created by the lyrics and melody. I really hope he does it the same way on his album.

I love the band, but agree this one song needs to be just jason, acoustic. Its such a vulnerable song, such beautiful lyrics... "For a moment we'll be diamonds in the dark.." Pure poetry.

I'm confused by the 'raw/acoustic' versus 'with the band' discussion in this thread ~ haven't all Jason's performances of this song been acoustic/alone so far, or have I missed a version with the band? or, am I just not hearing the band's contribution somewhere? I have listened to these 4 versions: Original Youtube Flytrap Garland TAMU Whilst I don't think I've heard a version with the band so far, I'm pretty sure I would go for a 'raw acoustic Jason alone version' of this song everytime in any case though ~ it's perfect just as it is ~ vulnerable, no frills, intimate ~ nothing other than Jason, his voice from the heart and the listener As to which way I prefer listening to Jason singing this song, as in 'higher' versus 'lower' register, then for me, the higher register is my preference for this song, for the same reason amasette has given: I adore it done exactly as it was on the original date night video. I feel that the sweet, pure falsetto he used really adds to the mood of longing and vulnerability created by the lyrics and melody. I've been listening to the four versions mentioned back to back for a while and I love listening to them all, but I find it's the tenderness and vulnerability in Jason's higher register versions that move me viscerally ~ I actually physically feel his longing in my heart, whereas the more recent TAMU version doesn't have that effect on me, it has the tenderness, but doesn't convey the vulnerability and sense of longing so well as the original way of singing it to me. The spoken part "I pull you close to me" at Tulsa, has the same viseral effect though, it just sort of leaped out and grabbed hold of my heart, so maybe it's not so much about higher versus lower, as a greater variation in tone to suit the particular lyrics? So, if we're talking about recorded versions, I'll throw in a request for: the original youtube with the whispered part from Tulsa please ;D When it comes to live versions ~ however it comes & holds meaning for Jason at the time ~ keep it real!
