Remember that the DJs will respond best to an honest grassroots demand for the song more than to an obvious street teaming effort. And so here are a few guidelines to effectively promote Jason without crossing into that nebulous and scary land of "Chester the Requester" (which is the name DJs may give you if they start to recognize your voice or caller id).
- Request the song a maximum of three times per day/per station, using only stations that you're already listening to. Spamming stations with song requests or contacting stations outside your market area will backfire, so we need to show an interest without overdoing it.
- If sending your request via e-mail, please use only valid e-mail addresses. Signing up for additional accounts or using fake e-mail addresses to increase your request count will hinder the song's chance of receiving airplay.
~ Some stations will not be able to play the song because they have pre-set play lists. Respect the rules under which they are operating and thank them for their time.
~ Some stations will outright refuse requests from street teamers. Requests are more likely to be honoured if they come from you, the fan.
~ If you hear the song getting airplay, call the station to tell them you loved it! Be careful not to overdo that, too -- calling post song-play once or twice per week will show interest in the song without seeming like fan base activism.
Your efforts are critical and Jason appreciates your help in getting him airplay! Let's play smart and think long-term to give Jason immediate but effective success and a long, prosperous career.
