I read somewhere that only 2 purchases of the same song from the same account count as a sale for that song, even if they are gifted. (I will try to find where I read it and post exact verbage, but it was over a year ago) It would probably be better if you can email the link to your friends and buy them an itunes giftcard (I think these can be emailed too) to use to purchase his song, so the purchasing is from a different account.

I can't help wondering if the BIG NEWS is a contract? That would cetainly delay an independant release...
