Jason live and in the studio: Unpredictable...his full-length version of Mariah Carey's I Don't Want to Cry is impressive, and Dolly Parton's Travelin' Thru works well too. And, most surprisingly, his studio version of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Memory is quite a delicacy -- seems Jason had a natural empathy for the cat he didn't know sang the song. here's the link: blogs.usatoday.com/idolchatter/2008/08/jason-live-and.html

I have to say jason has never gotten the credit he deserves for "Memory" but if you check out fansites it is a big favorite..... Its nice to see it acknowledged in press as a "delicacy."

So good to read this link. Thanks for posting. I agee that Jason did not get the credit he deserved for his rendition of "Memory". Not too long a go I went to YouTube to listen to some of the "power versions" of the song and quite frankly I still like Jason's take on the song much better. He gave it feeling and passion that does not need to be yelled at you to realize. One of my favorites.

Grizabella, your AV cracks me up every time. Haha and I second everything you say. Memory as performed Jason's way is so much more moving and meaningful that all the Glory Notes versions out there. I actually cried when Jason sang it because for the first time I really heard the longing, the pain and desire. When the judges slammed it I was infuriated. I mean really and truly what the heck? Jason made it his own, it was sung beautifully?

I agree that Jason sang Memory with a lot of feeling- I do not know what the judges were hearing?

I think that the judges had a preconceived notion, as did ALW, that they were not going to like Memory since it is always sung by a female. As we found throughout the last season, the judges didn't seem to pay attention to a lot of things and were following their "script". Shame on them!! They missed a beautiful rendition of Memory.

Yes, memory actually brought me to tears when Jason sang it on aI. And i never particularly liked the song before!
I am surprised that the live Daydream wasn't appreciated by this critic! It's one of my favorites.
BTW, is this the same Ken burns who did the Baseball and Jazz miniseries? Prob not, but i'm just wondering...

I think the only thing they didn't like about Memory was the fact that they liked it. I honestly think Idol didn't want to like it.
So they said, but Barry Manilow sang a version of Memory and I'm more than sure everyone of them had not only known it, but also heard it.

Jason's version of memory was perfection. This song has been over sung too many times to count and I was beginning to hate it, but i love the way Jason interpreted the song. At this point in the competition they were not going to like anything Jason did. I will never understand why they did not like Jason since he has everything they should be looking for: a unique style, incredible voice, engaging personality, tons of fans, and is beautiful to look at. What more could they want in an idol?

Simon said in an intreview that after listening to Jason's memory again, he admits that they were too hard on him...
